October: The Month of Pushing

October has been pretty interesting so far.

I kicked off the month with a challenge to myself. The three or thirty challenge. Either 3 miles or 30 minutes of activity, every single day from October 1 to October 31. Technically, I’ve failed because I was in the hospital this past weekend, but I don’t think I’m going to be too hard on myself on that one.

I got right back into it – with a 5.6 mile run in my extremely hilly neighborhood the day after I returned home. I was proud of myself because I walked out the door looking to run 3, maybe 4 miles. I felt good and kept going. I don’t want to forget the feeling of strength I had in that run. I know I’m going to need it in the future. The Wine and Dine Half Marathon is one month away, and I’m not nearly close to where I should be in my training. This weekend is the test. Hopefully, I’ll push myself to at least 8 miles. I think I can, I think I can….

October also kicked off a huge change in my life, starting a new job in a new city. My responsibilities are finally settling into place, and it’s nice to start to get into a rhythm that compliments my activity challenge. I’ve slowly started to learn when to wake up, which grocery store to go to, where to eat, and how to navigate to work. It’s been just under two weeks of living here, and everything is feeling a little more normal. I miss my connections back home and in Rochester, but thanks to technology, I still feel close to them.

My final October “push” has been regarding this blog. I’ve worked to blog every day (again, being in the hospital was a bit of a hurdle), and I think I’ve done it. I tried to grab some interesting photos for you readers, and give some interesting things to skim over if you’re bored late at night. It’s cool to see that it’s working, as my monthly stats are increasing with my increased number of posts (welcome to Blogging 101). Any suggestions on blog topics are appreciated, obviously, and comments make me smile 🙂

Coming down the pipe this month is #heweb14, which I will announce is October 18 – 22. For any of my Twitter followers, that means I’m going to be sending out well over 300 tweets in the four days I’m there, if it was anything like last year (probably more). I took a glance at the schedule yesterday, and couldn’t stop smiling. Between the kick-ass presenters and the after hours plans for socializing, I can’t wait to head out to Portland next weekend!

October is all about change. Leaves are changing, weather is changing, allergies are changing, and my life is changing. So far, it’s not too bad!
